Participation in the EMPOWER-T2D study is still open! This study assess the effectiveness of shared medical appointment weight management and weight loss medications to improve outcomes for patients with a BMI ≥30 and type 2 diabetes. This program is open to EHP employees and spouses. Monthly face-to-face shared medical appointments, or quarterly appointments, depending on which group of the study you are assigned, are required.
To be eligible:
- BMI ≥30
- A diagnosis of type 2 diabetes with an A1C > 7.5%
- No use of any medications for weight loss within the past 90 days
- No visit with an endocrinologist for the management of Type 2 diabetes within the past year
- No prior participation in the Endocrinology and Metabolism Institute’s Integrated Weight Management program.
- Program does not qualify one for the Healthy Choice premium discount, but can help one meet their Healthy Choice goals.

The Cleveland Clinic Preventive Cardiology Department, in collaboration with C5Research (Cleveland Clinic Coordinating Center for Clinical Research), are looking for 200 volunteers between the age of 40-75 years with elevated cholesterol to participate in a research study to evaluate a low dose of a FDA approved statin medication compared with several commercially available over the counter dietary supplements which are marketed for cholesterol health.
If you have an LDL cholesterol between 70-189 mg/dL, you may be eligible to participate.
Participants must not currently be taking a statin or one of the dietary supplements included in the trial. Participants willing to discontinue a prohibited supplement for 4 weeks prior to enrollment will be allowed to participate.
Total participation time is 4 weeks. Study medication will be provided at no charge. Participants will not know the study medication assigned during participation.
There will be two visits which include a lab draw at any Cleveland Clinic lab.

Yoga for Treatment of Low Back Pain
The Cleveland Clinic Department of Wellness & Preventive Medicine is looking for volunteers to participate in a study for the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of yoga on chronic low back pain. The study is a 24 week study which includes randomization to either the Yoga Now group (12 week virtual yoga classes) or Yoga Later group (12 weekly virtual yoga classes that will start approximately 6 months after enrolling in the study).
You are eligible to participate in this study if you meet the following criteria:
- 18-64 years old
- Chronic LBP with average pain intensity >4 for the previous week on an 11 -point numerical rating scale
- Ability to speak and understand English
There is no cost to participate and participants will not receive monetary compensation. If you join the study you will be given a free yoga mat, participation manual, receive virtual yoga classes designed for low back pain, and be provided access to online yoga videos for home practice.
Your decision to participate is completely voluntary and you can stop your participation at any time. Participation in this study will have no direct impact on your benefit coverage
